Abdulkarim Soroush : The Theologian
by Dr. Soroush Dabbagh

This lecture will discuss the works of Abdulkarim Soroush – arguably the most influential and controversial post-revolutionary intellectual in Iran, and a key participant in the formation of a new liberalist and pluralist understanding of Islam in the country.

Dr. Soroush Dabbagh has a PhD in Philosophy (Warwick University, UK).  He has taught classes in Islamic bioethics, philosophy, human rights and morality in the History Department at University of Toronto Mississauga.  He is the author and co-author, respectively, of the forthcoming books ‘Ethics and Mysticism: Islamic Debates in Post-Revolutionary Iran‘ (Oxford: One World, 2015) and ‘The Life of Soroush: Mysticism and Politics‘ (Oxford: One World, 2015).  He has written and spoken extensively on ethics from a religious perspective, and has several books on the topic written in Persian (such as Generality and Particularity in Ethics, Heresy from an Ethical Perspective, and others)
